The Photonics Education and Training Project has two educational partners to provide photonics training to students in Ontario. Each training centre offers a photonics program developed in partnership with Photonics Research Ontario to ensure academic standards between educational venues.

Niagara College

Niagara College Photonics Education Programs



Algonquin College
has 11,500 full-time students and 48,000 Continuing Education course registrants. The College currently offers a comprehensive suite of programs in photonics, telecommunications and information technology. Algonquin offers a formal 3-year Diploma program in Photonics Engineering Technology, a 1-year Certificate program designed for Technologists, Engineers, Scientists, and a variety of highly specialized courses and workshops designed for photonics professionals.

Algonquin's new 115,000 sq.ft. Advanced Technology Centre, scheduled to open in August 2002, will have over 3500 sq.ft. of dedicated photonics laboratory space. The new photonics facilities will support laboratory experimentation in optics, opto-electronics, opto-mechanics, fibre optics, fibre devices, imaging, lasers and packaging. These state-of-the-art facilities will provide a superb venue for conducting applied research in the area of photonics. These facilities will also enable Algonquin to graduate the highly skilled Photonics Engineering Technologists required to support world-class photonics research and development in the Ottawa region.
