The
PET Project (Photonics Education and Training) is
a shared project of Photonics Research Ontario,
Niagara College and Algonquin College.
Designed
to provide skilled personnel to the rapidly growing
photonics industry, PET will position Ontario to
be competitive in the emerging multi-trillion dollar
global photonics industry.
Working
with the photonics industry and specialized sectoral
clusters, PET has developed an educational model
and career pathway for the photonics sector of special
interest to high school students and other people
in a technical and science career field.
Niagara
College and Algonquin College will deliver specialized
photonics training at the technician and technologist
level, beginning in September 2001. The colleges
will also provide customized training in photonics
as requested by individual industries.
The
PET Project is made possible by the generous support
of The Strategic Skills Investment Initiative of
the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and
Trade, and of industry partners.
